A question, a switch that will not answer, an idea? Write to portfinder@gpxcanada.ca. Please include the switch vendor and model and, if possible, the relevant lines from the app's Log.
The switch does not answer over SNMP
- SNMP v2c must be enabled on the switch with a read-only community. PortFinder does not support SNMP v3.
- UDP port 161 must be reachable from your device (no firewall in between).
- On iPad, allow Local Network access when the system asks (Settings ▸ Privacy ▸ Local Network).
- Use “Test connection” in the switch form: the message tells you which step fails.
“Where am I plugged in?” finds nothing
- The cable must be plugged in and the link up; give the switch a few seconds to learn your address, then try again.
- On iPad, the system hides the MAC address: the app goes through the iPad's IP address, which must appear in the ARP table of at least one polled switch (a layer-3 switch, or the subnet's gateway added as an SNMP switch).
- Over Wi‑Fi you are not plugged into a jack: the result points to the access point's port.
Classic Cisco IOS
On these switches the MAC table is indexed per VLAN through the community (public@10). Enter one switch per VLAN, or use a recent IOS-XE / NX-OS that publishes Q-BRIDGE-MIB.
Sync
- It is optional. Without an account, the app works entirely offline.
- The passphrase cannot be recovered: the server does not know it. If you lost it, delete the account (Settings ▸ Sync) and sign in again to choose a new one; the switches on your device will be sent again.
- Deleting the account immediately erases all your data from the server.
